In keeping with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), our ELITE program provides the required continued post high school education for our students identified through the special education process to be in need of additional support in the areas of vocational readiness and life skills development.  The mission of the program is to provide further training in these areas within real life work and community environments so that students may live as independently as possible.  Students may qualify for these services through the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process up until the age of 22.

Introducing NCB - Next Chapter Books

We hope you have heard the exciting news about our planned revisions for our ELITE program!   In case you missed it, here is the original presentation we shared with the Board of Education in August, about current strengths and challenges of the program, as well as our cost-effective solution to begin a student-run bookstore/cafe in Trumbull Center that will serve as an employability training platform for students and provide them with meaningful instructional opportunities to strengthen their daily living skills.

We are so grateful to the Board of Education, First Selectwoman, Town Council and Planning & Zoning Commission for enthusiastically supporting our project!  Read some recent press that describes our next steps. Due to some unforeseen delays, our grand opening dates have shifted slightly.  We expect to be able to announce an official opening date sometime in the first quarter of 2022.

How You Can Help

Many individuals and organizations have asked how they can help support our  community based bookstore, scheduled to open on December 1, 2021.  Due to the success of our Town Wide Book Drive and the hard work of our Elite students, student volunteers and parents last July, as well as many subsequent contributions, we now have our needed inventory to fully stock and open our store. We anticipate organizing a regular process to resume accepting donations once we are up and running.

Amazon Wish List  - As we prepare for our store opening, our Friends of ELITE  support group of parents and community members have put together this Amazon Wish List in response to so many who have reached out with the desire to help in our start up.

Please see that all items are shipped  ℅ Bethany Freeman, Trumbull Public Schools Special Education Department, 6254 Main Street,Trumbull, CT 06511. (And please include a gift note, as we would love to say thank  you!)

Sponsor a Bookcase Fundraiser - Additionally, we are hosting a fundraising campaign  which provides community members and businesses with an exclusive opportunity to “Sponsor a Bookcase” in our shop.  The cost to sponsor various sizes of bookcases ranges from $250 to $1,000. All donors will be recognized with commemorative plaques to be placed permanently on the bookcases.  If you are interested in learning more about making a contribution in this manner, please email Bethany Freeman for more information This email address is being protected from spambots.
